Tell us what solutions you provide and who for?

With over 31 years of construction experience globally and 15 years specialising in repair and structural strengthening, our company has earned a trusted reputation in seismic resilience and building repair. What sets us apart is our hands-on involvement in many of Christchurch’s major earthquake strengthening projects, reflecting not only technical expertise but a genuine commitment to protecting people, assets, and communities.

Our deep local experience, combined with specialist knowledge in earthquake strengthening and a collaborative approach with engineers, architects, and clients, allows us to deliver practical, tailored solutions that balance safety, cost-efficiency, and long-term durability. What are the key challenges your organisation/industry is currently experiencing and what are your plans to overcome them?

A persistent challenge in our industry is the lack of knowledge and experience among some contractors, which can lead to poor planning, substandard workmanship, and reduced client confidence. To counter this, we prioritise raising industry standards through consistently high-quality work, ongoing training, and staying up to date with the latest techniques, regulations, and materials.

We also focus on collaborative planning with clients, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure clear expectations, realistic timelines, and well-coordinated execution. Every project is supported by robust internal checks and experienced supervision, ensuring workmanship of the highest standard. By emphasising knowledge, planning, and quality, we aim to strengthen not just individual buildings, but the industry as a whole.

Can you share with us a key organisational milestone or success story?

A standout achievement for Renova Solutions this year was the major strengthening work on the old Noah’s Hotel site in Christchurch (Sheraton Hotel), which involved applying a carbon fibre strengthening system. This complex, high-profile project demanded precision, coordination, and specialist expertise, and we’re proud it was delivered on time and on budget with the support of the Rockbond team.

The project highlighted our ability to apply advanced strengthening techniques, manage tight timelines and budget constraints, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders to ensure efficiency and minimal disruption. What made it truly memorable was the exceptional team effort – working alongside skilled, dedicated professionals who brought energy and collaboration to every stage. This milestone reflects both our technical capability and our culture of teamwork, underlining our commitment to reliable, high-quality outcomes for clients.

What’s next for your industry and what are your plans to stay ahead?

As the construction and structural strengthening industry evolves, clients increasingly seek versatile, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions, along with providers who can adapt quickly and deliver value beyond traditional scopes.

To meet this demand, we’re diversifying our capabilities by expanding service offerings with innovative strengthening techniques, upskilling our team to stay current with evolving standards and technologies, and exploring new markets and project types. By staying agile, forward-thinking, and client-focused, we’re positioning ourselves to lead in a changing industry rather than simply respond to it.

Tell us a bit about how you’ve worked with the Rockbond team?

Over the years, I’ve built a strong partnership with the Rockbond team, collaborating closely across all industry sectors to establish clear project objectives, maintain open feedback channels, and resolve challenges efficiently. My contributions included leading projects that delivered measurable improvements in performance and cost savings, while jointly developing product and repair strategies that benefited clients and stakeholders.

I facilitated regular catch-ups to identify issues early and implement solutions, reducing rework and refining processes through a data-driven approach that tracked KPIs and applied lessons learned. Acting as a liaison between Rockbond and customers, I translated field insights into actionable product enhancements, all while prioritising relationship-building, transparency, and proactive risk management to foster trust and sustain project momentum.

And finally (just for fun!) at Rockbond we work on a range of manmade structures of all shapes and sizes so we’re keen to find out, what have you seen that you’ve been most impressed with, or what would be on your bucket list to see?

Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to witness and work on a variety of remarkable manmade structures like the Tower of London in UK and closer to home the Christchurch Town Hall strengthening project and many others iconic buildings in the city.

Among those, I have been most impressed by the innovative approaches to earthquake strengthening and the scale of collaborative engineering efforts in Christchurch, New Zealand. The city’s major seismic resilience projects stand out for their technical complexity and the positive impact they have had on safeguarding people and assets.
