Project Name: Downtown Ferry Terminal, Auckland, NZ
Completion Date: Mid-2021

Project Details:
Rockbond worked with the Downtown Joint Venture Team on the Downtown Ferry Terminal Project on Auckland’s waterfront.
The Downtown JV Team created six new berths on the west side of Queens Wharf, in the first step towards a modern, consolidated ferry terminal for Auckland. This is the biggest upgrade to Auckland’s ferry infrastructure and passenger services in more than a century.
Rockbond worked with the Team at HEB (part of Downtown JV) to supply the special grouts required for the 21 large pontoon piles. These piles were already sleeved with PE pipe and had to have precast GFRC outer sleeves installed, with structural grout between the PE & the GFRC panels…which in itself was an interesting challenge!
Rockbond supplied our 4.03 Underwater Grout for the underwater sections of the piles, so that they could be grouted while submersed. For the above water sections of the piles we supplied a cement grout mix that could be easily pumped, while keeping the overall weight of the grout down, to meet project specifications.
The end result….21 stunning precast piles incorporating beautiful Māori art, that commuters have the privilege of viewing each day as they board the ferry!
