Northland Train Line, NZ
Key Products Used:
Throughout 2020, significant improvements were carried out on the Northland Train Line between Auckland and Whangarei.
Rail helps reduce overall transport emissions, given each tonne of freight carried by rail has 70 per cent fewer emissions than that carried by road.
There are 13 tunnels on the Northland Line that needed repairs, with some of the tunnels needing to have the tracks lowered so that the shipping containers didn’t hit the walls of the Pre-1900 heritage tunnels as the trains went through. There were also a lot of bridges that needed replacing & repairing along the line.
Due to being well over 100 years old, the tunnels needed a good steel of structural strengthening and repair to bring them up to speed.
Rockbond worked with Groundfix, HEB & Geotech to provide structural repair solutions, including our 1.02 Dry-Spray Concrete (Gunite), which was used for structural repairs throughout the tunnels. Rockbond’s 6.15 Super Plasticiser was also used to pump the rock bolt grout over long distances, with the longest tunnels being over half a kilometre long.
