Marton Dam, NZ
Completion Date:
May 2020
Project Details:
Rockbond worked with Rock Control to repair the dam spillway and fill large voids underneath the spillway slab. This project was carried out during the first NZ Covid Lockdown in April 2020 due to the urgency of the project.
The main issue with the spillway was the large voids underneath the slab, caused by dam overflow water going over the sidewall and eroding away underneath. This had also caused structural cracks in the spillway slab that needed to be repaired as well.
Rockbond developed a special shrinkage compensated, heavily plasticised cement grout mix that could be pumped over 80mt.
The team at Rock Control pumped 87 tonnes of this special grout mix (now known as 5.03HF) underneath the slab to fill up all the voids.
Rockbond worked with the engineers and Rock Control come up with the best repair solution for repairing the cracks in the spillway slab as well, so that the spillway can not only handle the large volumes of water that rush down it, but will stay in good shape for years to come.
