Chief Post Office, Auckland NZ

Completion Date:

August 2022

Project Details:

Auckland’s Chief Post Office at number 12 Queen’s Street has now been returned to it’s former glory as the scaffolding and shrinkwrap has been removed meaning this iconic, historic building, one of Auckland’s downtown landmarks, is once again fully visible.

This building is the key part of the new City Rail Link rail network being a downtown station where Aucklanders can join the rail system.

Throughout 2022, Rockbond worked with the teams at JEC Solutions and Legacy Construction to provide a lightweight screed for the roof area of the Auckland Chief Post Office building. Due to the age of the structure it was key that the screed was lightweight and finished in a way that the roofing overlay product could be applied easily.

For this project, JEC Solutions used Rockbond’s 1.01 Repair Mortar, a fibre-reinforced mortar screed mixed with P500 lightweight admix to provide a very lightweight screed which was long-life and easy to apply while meeting the lightweight specification requirements.

Rockbond’s 2.07 self-levelling screed was also used in areas where a self-smoothing screed was required.

There’s nothing more rewarding to see an iconic heritage building strengthened and put back to it’s former state.
