Client Profile: Surfprep

We recently spoke to one of our clients, Paul van Rensburg, Commercial Manager at Surfprep, about how the Rockbond team supports what they do and their plans for the future.

Tell us what solutions you provide and who for?

Based in Hamilton, Surfprep Ltd is known for reliable, high-quality concrete repair and resurfacing work. As a trusted concrete resurfacing company, our experienced concrete repair specialists deliver innovative solutions for structural concrete repair, earthquake strengthening, surface preparation, protective coating systems, concrete texturing and grout repairs.

We provide specialist concrete testing to give you advice and transparency for the best results for your project and we operate in high compliance environments for Tier 1 infrastructure, civil, commercial companies and private asset owners.

What sets you apart from others in the market?

As a company, our team of individuals come up with innovative solutions for complex problems, providing customers peace of mind that we can fix their issues with technical expertise, specialist owned plant & equipment, effective collaboration and following a robust Health, Safety, Quality, and Environment (HSEQ) system.

Can you share any upcoming projects or plans that you’re particularly excited about?

We recently engaged a third party to increase awareness of our business and brand within the industry. In the past we’ve grown through our exemplary project delivery and outcomes as well as word of mouth, but feel now is the time to expand our reach to other targeted audiences.

What are the key challenges your organisation/industry is currently experiencing and what are your plans to overcome them?

The construction industry is known for being a rollercoaster ride and our competitors in the market will always be a challenge but we need to set ourselves apart in the way we approach clients, the quality we deliver and upkeep a standard that they’re unable to achieve.

Other challenges include the uncertainty of client spend and the roll-out of key large infrastructure projects, hence the reason why we offer such a wide variety of services across several sectors.

Can you share with us a key organisational milestone or success story?

This year, Surfprep will be celebrating its 20th Birthday! This in itself is a massive milestone, from our humble beginnings doing landscaping works to now undertaking one of the largest infrastructure structural strengthening projects in New Zealand, which is something everyone in this organisation can be incredibly proud of.

What’s next for your industry and what are your plans to stay ahead?

We are continuously improving on the level of service we offer, client interaction and solving problems for our key clients. Very often all a client needs is a one-stop-shop that can make a problem disappear and we’e always thinking one step ahead, to not only offer the best service, but also the most appropriate and cost effective solution for our clients.

Tell us a bit about how you’ve worked with the Rockbond team?

A few years ago, we would have contacted Rockbond for the occasional product advice as many specifications are “copied & pasted” by Engineers to the stock standard trade names.

We very soon realised that the collaboration, advice and ability to adjust and suit products to site specific needs, set Rockbond apart from other competitors.

Fast forward to 2025 and we see Rockbond as our primary supplier in the market, not only because they have great products, but their response to tenders, client queries, advice and recommendations are second to none and in a fast-paced environment that’s exactly what we want to provide our clients… the best possible solution in the shortest amount of time.

And finally (just for fun!) at Rockbond we work on a range of manmade structures of all shapes and sizes so we’re keen to find out, what have you seen that you’ve been most impressed with, or what would be on your bucket list to see?

I’m fascinated by the marine solutions offered by Rockbond to wharfs and harbours and this is an area that I would like to explore more.

In addition to this, my bucket list of structures to see would be the Middle East (e.g. Dubai, Qatar, Doha), purely to experience what they’ve created in a desert and to see some of the world’s largest manmade structures.

On the flip side, I’d also like to experience European buildings to see more of what we know (i.e. restoring heritage and old concrete assets).
