Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway PP20

Project Details:

The Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway forms part of the Wellington Northern Corridor which runs between Levin and Wellington Airport.

The project has a number of key structures:

An overbridge at Te Horo to link School Road and Gear Road with Te Horo Beach Road.
An overpass just north of Ōtaki allowing the old SH1 to pass over the expressway and railway
Ōtaki railway realignment
A vehicle overbridge at Rahui Road crossing the expressway and the railway line
A four-lane Ōtaki River bridge to be located east of the Ōtaki River rail bridge
An overbridge at Taylors Road to improve safety.

From 2019 through till 23rd December 2022 when the motorway opened, Rockbond worked with the team at Fletcher Construction on a number of areas of this significant roading project. Earlier on, our team worked with the engineers at Fletchers in providing structural solutions, mainly grouts, into the bridge structures. It included an number of our different grouts and mortars, both cementitious and epoxy.

We were also heavily involved with the precast yard at Otaihanga that was manufacturing the road barriers, with Rockbond release agent being used for these. Following this over a number of months we supplied thousands of bags of Rockbond 1.04 GP Grout Plus for installation of the concrete road barriers along sections of the highway.

Rockbond team really enjoyed working on this project of national significance and also enjoyed working along with the team at Fletchers to provide long-life structural solutions for the concrete structures on this project.
